Bio for Aaron Ruotsala

I have to say; I never expected to be writing a bio for myself at the age of 24.  I never imagined losing my son at the age of three to cancer in the span of eight short weeks.

Before Cole’s death, I would have considered myself your average church attendee, just trying to make a name for myself in this world.  Unfortunately, it did take the loss of my precious son for me to realize how precious life truly is.  From his hospital bed, my son looked me in the eye and said, “Daddy, help me!”  There was nothing I could do.  It broke me, inside and out, from the top of the highest mountains to the depths of the deepest seas.  I never experienced a love this deep before.  I never realized how much I would give up to make all of his pain and sufferings go away.   At that point, I felt like I could understand what God himself went through while watching His only begotten Son suffer and die for you and me.  I can only imagine how God must have felt to know that by a touch of his finger he could have stopped everything for His Son.  I am afraid that if I had that opportunity, I would certainly have stopped everything for Cole.  While Cole was lying in our arms on September 19, 2008, he went to be with the Lord.

It was the beginning of an entirely new world for me.  I was suddenly aware of a world where life is truly worth living.  I realized that the years of burdens I carried on my back could have been dealt with in seconds.  Through my son’s battle, I awoke to a new perspective on life.  I wanted to reach out to others who were suffering and let them know that God loves and cares for them.  With over a million people supporting our family through Cole’s battle with cancer, I finally realized what the true body of Christ consists of… it is much larger than four walls of our physical church.
